The Biorefinery Developer is petitioning the Mayfield Borough Council to rezone 38 acres of R1 (residential) land that borders homes along several streets on the east hill of Mayfield.  This land is situated between these homes and a large tract of M1 (industrial) land that "they" own.  There is enough of the M1 land to hold the proposed plant, but they want to rezone the 38 acres of R1 land as well.  Please click here to see a map of the proposed M1 and R1 land for this site, and to see how it will affect you, your friends & neighbors, and our elementary school students!!

You may be thinking why is the re-zoning necessary?  The developer says that it is to “make improvements” on the land.  If that’s the only reason, then  it doesn't need to be rezoned.  The real answer is that they want to expand this facility beyond it’s intended purpose and possibly use it as a waste incineration plant.  Yes, that’s right, they want to burn garbage, and they want to do it directly in the back yards of the east hill resident's homes. 

The only thing that can prevent this is, once again, our Mayfield Borough Council.  Since this is a rezoning (not an exception), it will be voted upon by our council after the October 17^th Zoning Hearing.  Remember, our zoning ordinance hasn't changed very much in over 40 years, this isn't something that happens on a whim!!

Next, if you’re reading this, you MUST attend the hearing and be prepared to get up and express your opposition.  If you’re uncomfortable speaking in front of crowds, or you’re afraid that you won’t have anything original to say, you still NEED to have your opposition stated on the official record of the hearing.  Even if you have a short pre-written statement written and you just get up and read it, you've made your voice heard.  Please start thinking about what you want to say right now!!!!
