Dragging the firefighters into this is a red herring. "Where were the No Ethanol people when there was a fire?" Wow. Pretty tough to argue with that "logic." Several of the last few posts are just childish. Not only are they off-topic, they're about to burst at the seams of reason and commonsense. The council was handed a petition with 2/3rds of the names of the people in town affixed, saying "no rezoning, no ethanol plant." They ignored it while others doubted it's veracity. "Oh, old people are scared and will sign anything." That's a stunningly offensive swipe at the elderly population of Mayfield but I heard it said. The results of Tuesday, 11/6 aren't official yet but I think once they are, the ethanol/Chelik/present council supporters might still try to go with "Oh, the old people are scared and will vote for any write-in candidates." The numbers speak for themselves. And for what it's worth I think if the off-topic posts continue they should be deleted or this guestbook shut down.

Linda, you are correct there is more going on in Mayfield, it not only about the proposed ethanol plant. But THIS WEBSITE IS!! What part of www.noethanol.org don't you understand??!! Do you shop for creamed corn at Home Depot? They should shut this guestbook down, it's not the proper forum to discuss other town politics or to slander your neighbor. And Melissa you're right on about the selfish thing, sacrificing our town's safety and quality of life for a few grossly exaggerated tax $$ is wicked selfish!! There's more than one way to skin a cat. . .um, I mean increase revenue, many of which DO NOT include raising taxes.

The problem with "to Linda's" comment is when you grew up in Mayfield it was what 1950's, 60's 70's or 80's? It is time to move into THIS century! You have a computer don't you, you didn't have that when you were grewing up did you? Are you saying we should get rid of our technolgically advance "stuff". It was a nice place before so much of this division of the people! Current council is faced with the same issue as any future council will be presented, we are BROKE!! NO ONE wants anyone pumping basements during storms, but if the funds are not there, it can not be fixed properly. The tax base the ethanol plant would afford this town, has the potential to "fix" the problems we can not afford to fix ourselves. There are many elderly people in this town as well, living on scarce fixed incomes and raising taxes would make the difference between food and medication or their homes and the property taxes to keep their homes in many of our elderly. I have witnessed so much selfishness in these past few weeks, it makes me sad.

I just read the entry from another Mayfield resident and truly we are not getting off topic. All that is happening in this town is more than just about ethanol, it's about the reasons your committe was formed. I'm just trying to make the point that you efforts were formed for the wrong reasons. This is why we are so hot about defending the volunteers of this town. The committee never worried about the children or flooding in the past. Why now?
